Each API call returns an HTTP status code that reflects the nature of the response. We have done our best to follow the HTTP status code conventions.
Any request that did not succeed will return a 4xx or 5xx error. The 4xx range means there was a problem with the request, like a missing parameter. The 5xx range means that something went wrong on our end.
Salesmachine API returns the following codes:
OK – Request succeeded
Created – A resource was created
Bad Request – Incorrect or missing API key
Unauthorized – Your API key is wrong
Not Found – The specified url could not be found
Method Not Allowed – You tried to access our api with an invalid method
Not Acceptable – You requested a format that isn’t json
Too Many Requests – You’re sending too many requests! Slow down, or if you have a high traffic webapp, contact us :-)
Internal Server Error – We had a problem with our server. Try again later.

API Rate Limits are in place to protect Intercom from API traffic spikes that could put our databases at risk. We therefore measure the amount of requests sent to the API in order to throttle these when they surpass the amount allowed. We will respond with
'429 Too Many Requests' and the following headers:
Maximum number of requests allowed for the app.
Number of requests left in the current time.
Time when the number of requests will be reset to the maximum limit. Shown as UNIX timestamp.
